I Like Your Package.

Me again!

Now that I have your attention with my oh so very clever headline, I’d like to take a moment to talk about wrapping gifts. I was inspired to write about this because of the nicely wrapped package I got in the mail today from Ruche. I had done some online Christmas shopping and one of the items was wrapped in a kraft bag and sealed with green and white polka dot washi tape. Seeing that someone had taken the extra time to do that was awesome!! Now if I was thinking earlier, I would have taken a picture of it to show you, but alas, I was not. I blew it. You’ll just have to take my word for it that it was awesome.

With that being said, it’s that time of year where it is inevitable that we will all be wrapping some kind of present. So, I would like to share with you unique options or ideas that are different than your everyday, run of the mill Christmas wrapping paper.

Some of them are quite simple. Some of these ideas will require a bit more time on your part… BUT I GUARANTEE you that your efforts will be well received! Everyone likes getting gifts, and if you say you don’t, I don’t believe you. Getting a gift makes you feel special. GIVING someone a gift can also make you feel special. So why not take a bit more time and wrap your gift up real pretty like!!

I for one LOVE kraft paper!! It’s timeless… It’s neutral. It’s the perfect backdrop for any embellishment you want to add to your present.

You can use anything you have lying around to make bows: Yarn, string, raffia, twine, old fabric, and yes, even ribbon!!! I bet ya never thought of that one, eh…  You could even use other patterned paper or wrapping paper to use as a band around your gift.

Now that you’ve “wrapped” your present up, think about adding fun extras to it. Add things that relate to the gift or the person you are giving it to, or you could just decorate it for the season or occasion.

Pine cones or berries, buttons, flowers, custom hang tags, snowflakes or ornaments on top are fun. You could even tie part of the gift to the top of the box! Seriously, anything goes!!! BE CREATIVE!

Why not decorate your kraft paper with paint markers?!? Stamp it up!!  Use some of that really cool washi tape everyone is Pinning about! Let your kids draw all over the paper or add stickers to it. Think outside the box (no pun intended) and let your imagination run wild!

Kraft paper not your style? No problem! Be on the look out for really graphic and different wrapping paper. Look for paper with non-traditional holiday colors. No one says that you have to wrap in red and green. If the gift is small enough, you could even use old pages from a book to wrap it with.  A while back I was able to find some really cool (and neutral!) wrapping paper in the dollar spot at Tarjay. Totally different and totally cool. One had an illustrated wood grain pattern on it, another had newspaper type all over it, while the last one had a simple black polka dot on a “kraft paper” color background. Can’t go wrong with polka dots. Classic.

We all appreciate pretty things and usually gravitate towards the ones with better designed packages and labels. They have a tendency to look like whatever is inside that package is waaaay better than the one sitting right next to it with the regular ol’ paper. All of the pictures I posted above are perfect examples of nicely designed packages. Design is everywhere people. Look around and you’ll see it. I hope this post has inspired you to be creative and maybe, just maybe, you’ll want to make this year the best gosh darn looking holiday yet!!
